ÇALİŞ BOWLİNG CLUB
A POTTED HİSTORY
Çaliş Bowling Club was founded in 2006 by 6 English ex pats living in the Çaliş, Fethiye area of South West Turkey.
An initial meeting, held in November 2006, to gauge interest in a Flat Green Bowling Club, which would be the first of its kind in Turkey, attracted a large number of people and so plans were made to forge ahead with the scheme.
Unfortunately we had a rocky start when approx 2 months into creating the site (all the labour being done by our potential members!) the owners of the land had a dispute and decided that the green could no longer go ahead, so we had to start all over again finding a suitable area to locate our Club. We were determined to get going again. .
Over the course of the next couple of months we researched sourced and had laid an artificial all- weather flat green!! Fast work indeed, especially for Turkey! Various members had brought back bowls and equipment from England (often leaving clothes behind so they didn't have to pay any excess baggage charge!) and so by April 2007 we were finally ready to bowl in our new Club.
We had our official Opening Day on 19th May 2007 and the Club was opened by the Police Commissioner for Fethiye, with other dignitaries, club sponsors and club members helping to cut the very long red ribbon!
